At least 300 students were ordered to stay home Friday because of an outbreak of chickenpox at a Monroe Elementary School.
Sixteen students at Salem woods Elementary school are ill with varicella, otherwise known as the chickenpox.
Students who have not been vaccinated were asked to stay home, catching some parents by surprise.
They can get their children immunized, take health records to the school proving their children have had the chickenpox, or keep them out of school until the outbreak is over.
