A Northern California man and another man suffered major injuries Wednesday when a U.S. Border Patrol vehicle struck them as they hid behind heavy brush south of Carr Road, the California Highway Patrol reported today.
The Highway Patrol did not identify the Border Patrol agent involved in the 5:34 p.m. incident but identified Jorge River Arrojo, 31, and Jaime Rodriguez, 41, of Hollister, as the men who were hurt, according to a press statement by Highway Patrol Officer Jose Serrano. Both men were taken to Desert Regional Medical Center where their conditions were not immediately known.
Border Patrol authorities spotted two suspects crossing the border illegally in the area of Barbara Worth and Carr roads along the border fence, Serrano said. The agent was driving a Chevy Tahoe when he went through some heavy brush at 5-10 mph. The collision is under investigation.
