INDIANAPOLIS—Last season IUPUI and South Dakota State sat in the middle of the Summit League for most of the season, well behind the dominant top three of North Dakota State, Oral Roberts and Oakland.
While those three figure to be favorites again, the Jaguars did their part in the league opener to perhaps show people that they can make a run at the trio this season.
In their league opener against the Jackrabbits on Thursday night, Ron Hunter's team wasted no time establishing the tempo, jumping out to a big halftime lead in route to a dominating 79-57 victory at The Jungle in downtown Indianapolis.
Robert Glenn lead the Jaguars (6-2, 1-0 in Summit League) with 21 points, but he like the rest of the team shined in the first half, when IUPUI jumped out to a 43-28 lead. Glenn had 14 points in the first 20 minutes while Alex Young had 10 of his 13 total points then as well. IUPUI shot 58 percent from the floor while forcing eight South Dakota State turnovers.
Leroy Nobles had a bigger second half, as he chipped in 10 points to add to his total of 16 as the Jaguars ran away from the Jackrabbits for their first league win of the season. The second will have to come against one of the big three, as North Dakota State pays a visit to The Jungle Saturday Night.
