1. Mother knew best for daughter, and now they'll graduate together at HCC

As a mother, Howard Community College student Sonia Halboni believes she always has her children's best interests at heart, yet she can remember once when her peers didn't concur.

3. America's challenge in the Arab world

When the "Arab Spring" erupted, the cry of demonstrators to their rulers was Irhal ("get out"). And now, in Cairo, Tunis and elsewhere, we again hear cry of Irhal, directed at the new leaders of what increasingly seem like the old systems, unconvincingly repackaged.

5. Israeli zealotry is not true obstacle to peace

KAL's cartoon of March 24 depicting President Barack Obama disinterring a dove representing the two-state solution, only to see the dove shot at by "Israeli extremists" and "Palestinian extremists" is witty, clever, and inaccurate. The cartoon lazily rehashes the simplistic but false narrative that zealots on both sides are responsible for continuation of the conflict and equally to blame for the lack of a peaceful resolution.

7. Will the Arabs ever accept Israel's right to exist?

It is troubling that neither The Sun's news coverage nor its editorial regarding the United Nations' recognition of Palestine as a non-member observer state bothered to mention what Palestinian Authority Mahmoud Abbas actually said in his speech to the...

9. Don't punish Palestinians for seeking justice

11. For Israel, it's different this time

Until this year, the world would have been looking at the intensifying armed confrontation between Israel and Palestinians in the Gaza Strip with a sense of deja vu all over again.

The chameleon is finally showing his true colors.
The chameleon is finally showing his true colors. Since taking office in June, Mohamed Morsi, Egypt's not-so-new president, has been equivocating, trying to balance Egypt's longstanding diplomatic and financial relationship with the West with his true...

15. U.N. recognition of Palestinian state ups pressure on Israel to negotiate

Over the strenuous objections of the U.S. and Israel, the United Nations General Assembly voted today to grant nonmember observer status to a Palestinian state in the West Bank and Gaza. The U.N. action, which was widely anticipated, was largely a symbolic move that does nothing to change the situation on the ground or lead to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state. But it does raise international pressure on Israel to show it is serious about reaching a negotiated settlement, while allowing Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas to claim a historic advance in his people's quest for global recognition.

17. 'Terrorist' is in the eyes of the beholder

Rafael Medhoff's commentary notes that when the British held the Palestinian Mandate there was much Arab unrest in the face of increased Jewish immigration, and mandate authorities resorted to punitive measures to suppress it and to deport its leaders ("...

19. Gaza conflict different from the days of British rule

In his commentary, Rafael Medoff compares the British occupation of Palestine in the 1930s with today's events, but the circumstances of today vary from then ("Bombs in Palestine, then and now," Nov. 26). This would include mentioning the Israelis dying...

21. Bombs in Palestine, then and now

Bombs falling on Arab neighborhoods ... Homes demolished ... Civilians killed or wounded ... Soldiers shooting at anything that moves. That may sound like a description of the past week's violence between Israel and Palestinians in Gaza. But in fact, it...

23. The onus is on the Palestinians to talk peace

Your editorial suggesting that United Nations recognition of Palestine will put pressure on Israel to resume peace talks is a naive repetition of the myth that Palestinians actually want peace with Israel ("Pressure on Israel to negotiate," Nov. 30)....
