  7. When Arabs stop fighting and recognize Israel, peace can be negotiated

For all those who believe The Sun's position on Palestinian statehood has merit, the following is offered for consideration ("Pressure on Israel to negotiate," Nov. 30). The Palestinian statehood that they are seeking now, they could have had in 1948 with...

  9. For Israel, it's different this time

Until this year, the world would have been looking at the intensifying armed confrontation between Israel and Palestinians in the Gaza Strip with a sense of deja vu all over again.

The chameleon is finally showing his true colors.
The chameleon is finally showing his true colors. Since taking office in June, Mohamed Morsi, Egypt's not-so-new president, has been equivocating, trying to balance Egypt's longstanding diplomatic and financial relationship with the West with his true...

  13. Gaza on the brink

The escalating exchange of rocket barrages and airstrikes between Israel and the Hamas militants who control the Gaza Strip threatens to erupt into an all-out ground war that destabilizes the entire region. The U.S. and its European allies, along with Egypt, Turkey and the United Nations, must do everything possible to nudge the belligerents back from the edge through diplomatic means before events spin completely out of control.

  19. Cardin ignores Israeli human rights abuses

Neil Simon's column on the new U.S.-Russia trade law could not be further from the truth when it states that Sen. Benjamin Cardin has "catapulted human rights atop the international agenda ("Cardin stands up for rights," Dec. 12). Senator Cardin talks...

  21. U.N. recognition of Palestinian state ups pressure on Israel to negotiate

Over the strenuous objections of the U.S. and Israel, the United Nations General Assembly voted today to grant nonmember observer status to a Palestinian state in the West Bank and Gaza. The U.N. action, which was widely anticipated, was largely a symbolic move that does nothing to change the situation on the ground or lead to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state. But it does raise international pressure on Israel to show it is serious about reaching a negotiated settlement, while allowing Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas to claim a historic advance in his people's quest for global recognition.

  23. History shows Israel has acted reasonably

While reading G. Jefferson Price's column ("For Israel, it's different this time," Nov. 20), I was reminded of the quip "learned nothing, forgot nothing" describing a reactionary French royal family. Mr. Price displays the same distorted views toward...
