  1. Iran's nuclear genie is out of the bottle

After a yearlong round of escalating international economic sanctions and rhetoric, the regime in Iran has finally come around to raising expectations that it will take some constructive steps in reining in its nuclear weapons ambitions. But this cycle of...

  3. Take claims of Iran's nuclear capability with a grain of salt

Alireza Jafarzadeh's recent commentary ("Iran'snuclear genie is out of the bottle," April 16) is eerily reminiscent of the manipulations of Iraqi exile Ahmad Chalabi who shamelessly fed the US government false information with the express aim of...

  5. Iran nuclear threat is real and alarming

It is remarkable that Shibley Telhami can expound 10 points on the Iranian nuclear issue yet totally omit three of the most important aspects of this critical issue ("Iran, Israel, America: 10 points of interconnection," April 23). First, Iran's...

  7. 6th District Dems square off on Iran, ethics

The Democratic congressional candidates in Maryland's 6th District largely agree on major issues facing the country: They all favor immigration reform, more infrastructure spending to help boost the economy and a woman's right to have an abortion. But...

  9. Overstated Iranian 'threat' puts U.S. on path to war

A neocon joke, at the beginning of the Iraq war, was: "Anyone can go to Baghdad. Real men go to Tehran." It wasn't funny then, and it isn't funny now. Unfortunately, those "real men" who want to wage war on Iran are making so much noise that they may prevail — and hardly anyone is pushing back.

  11. When the pump runs dry

Under international pressure over its nuclear ambitions, Iran is now threatening to take pre-emptive action, which could include disrupting oil supplies to the West. It will come as a shock to most Americans, but no presidential candidate — nor, apparently, any agency at the local, state or federal level — has developed a contingency plan in the event of a protracted oil cut-off. It is not even being discussed. Government has prepared for hurricanes, anthrax, terrorism and every other disaster, but not the one threatened daily: a protracted oil stoppage, whether caused by terrorism or Iranian intervention in the Persian Gulf. It is like seeing a hurricane developing without a disaster plan or evacuation route. Our allies have oil shortage interruption contingency plans, but America does not.

  13. Don't blame Israel for the failure of talks with the Palestinians

Regarding Andrew C. Mills' letter on Israel and Iran, he is correct thatIsrael's long-term security can be achieved only with a comprehensive settlement with the Palestinians ("Israel's future hinges on compromise, not attacks," Feb. 11). An attack on...

  15. Where's the outrage over Palestinian rocket attacks on civilians in Israel?

After a very short period of peace, Palestinian terrorists in Gaza have resumed their attacks on Israel, launching massive numbers of Grad rockets at schools, playgrounds, hospitals and homes ("Israeli strikes, Gaza rockets end weeks of relative calm,"...

  17. Israel's future hinges on compromise, not attacks

As we are faced with the imminent threat of Israel'sattacking Iran, pro-Israeli lobbying groups are putting pressure on President Barack Obama and the Congress to support such an attack. Israel would attack in the name of protecting its security, but...

  19. War between Israel and Iran would be an unspeakable catastrophe

We should expect a horrific human toll from any exchange of hostilities between Iran and Israel ("Nuclear saber-rattling," Jan. 6). Steps toward avoiding that, such as your editorial call for an intricate U.S.-Tehran agreement, are morally well-...

  21. Inviting war through weakness?

One of the memorable slogans from the Reagan administration was "peace through strength." President Ronald Reagan believed a strong defense was a safeguard against enemy attacks and the best hope of victory should America go to war.
