Stop shielding Israel from the consequences of its own bad choices

I have followed with interest the commentary about Sen. Benjamin Cardin's legislative effort to shield Israel from the negative consequences of its own policies ("Cardin, don't tie U.S. hands for Israel," April 21). The U.S. appears to be alone among the developed nations in its willingness to unconditionally protect Israel from the growing Boycott, Divest and Sanctions movement. If a country chooses to disregard international law, as the Israelis have done repeatedly by expanding West Bank settlements, then surely there should be consequences. Such measures were effective in bringing Iran to the negotiating table. They were effective in forcing South Africa to end...
