Maggie Taylor shot a nine-hole round of 43 to lead the Lincoln County girls’ golf team Monday at Hickory Hills Country Club in Liberty, but it was not enough to help earn the win.

Host Casey County notched the win in the tri-match, eking out a one-stroke victory over Boyle County. Laura McQueen fired a 38 as the Casey Lady Rebels posted a team score of 172 for the win. Michaela Jarman had the day’s low round of 37 for Boyle County, which had a 173. Lincoln was third with a four-man score of 201.

The Lady Patriots had three players in the 40’s in the tri-match, with Kaycie Bandura shooting Lincoln’s second lowest round of 47 and Gentry Lewis finishing with a 48.

“Maggie overcame a triple bogey on her first hole and settled down and really played well the rest of the round,” Lincoln coach Kevin Bandura said. “Kaycie had a nice round as well and is getting more consistent. Gentry hit some really nice tee shots, but didn’t putt very well on the slow greens.”

Jacque Upchurch rounded out the four-man team scoring for Lincoln with a 63 while Mariah Bourne turned in a 67.

‘Mariah and Jacque had some good holes and played well in their first high school match,” Bandura said.

The Lady Patriots may have been off course for a victory in Monday’s match at Hickory Hills, but Bandura says he expects to see better scoring in the future.

“I look for us to improve as the season goes on. Hickory Hills is a tough course where you can find lots of trouble if you aren’t careful,” he said.

Casey’s Natalie McAninch  finished with a score of 42 in the win and her Lady Rebel teammates Alyx Streeval and Shelbie Salyers each had a 46 to round out the team scoring. Also on course for Casey in the match were Emilee Vaughn, who had a 47, and Catherine McAninch, who shot a 50.

Boyle got a 42 from Caroline McDonald and Taylor Thompson and Alexis Ayres both had a 47 to give the Lady Rebels a 173. Samantha Stewart also played for Boyle in the match, finishing with a 51.

The Lady Patriots will travel to Wild Turkey Trace Golf Club in Lawrenceburg on Saturday for the Joy of Golf Tournament. Lincoln will open its home schedule next Tuesday as Southwestern comes to Dix River Golf Course.
