  1. All dogs are 'inherently dangerous'

The simple fix for dog owners' passionate outrage over the Maryland Court of Appeals' ruling that pit bulls are "inherently dangerous" is to pass a law classifying all dogs that way ("Pit bull fight may stretch into dog days of summer," May 31). No...

  3. Pit bull fight may stretch into dog days of summer

The public rumble over pit bulls, provoked by the Maryland Court of Appeals' ruling in April that the breed is "inherently dangerous," could spill into the legislature should the General Assembly decide to take up the matter in a special session this summer. In the meantime, the state's highest court has been asked to reconsider its decision, or to at least delay it until the legislature gets a chance to act.

A pit bull attacked a 9-year-old child Wednesday night in Pasadena as the boy played on his bike, police said. The child was with his mother who was visiting a neighbor in the 200 block of Armstrong Lane around 8:18 p.m. when the dog bit the boy on his...

  7. If pit bulls weren't dangerous, owners wouldn't fear being held liable for their behavior

In response to William Ramsey's letter regarding pit bulls, I couldn't agree more ("Why not hold all dog owners accountable?" May 16). Pet owners should be liable for the risk presented to the rest of us when they select a breed to own. If pit bulls have...

  11. All pit bulls to be considered dangerous under court ruling

Pit bulls are inherently dangerous animals, the state's highest court has ruled, a decision that could lead to stiff penalties for people found responsible in attacks — even if the dogs have never been violent before. A decision by the Maryland...

  13. No evidence that pit bulls are more likely to bite

The Maryland SPCA is not only disappointed in the Maryland Court of Appeals recent ruling stating all "pit bulls" are inherently dangerous but also Dan Rodricks' commentary ("Pit bulls: Own at your risk," April 30). It is tragic to hear of anyone...

  15. Maryland SPCA: Court wrong in its pit bull ruling

The Maryland SPCA is disappointed by the recent Maryland Court of Appeals ruling ("Pit bulls are inherently dangerous, court rules," April 28). Obviously, it is tragic when anyone is hurt by an animal. These very sad situations can almost always be...

  17. Pit bulls: Own them at your own risk

The first entry in Sunday's costume contest at the 17th annual March for the Animals was a pit bull dressed as Batman. I was on a wooden stage with the other contest judges, about four feet off the ground at Druid Hill Park. That distance from the dog suited me. When I see pit bulls, even those in charming costume, I stay clear. They have a reputation for vicious mauling, and I'd rather avoid one.

  19. Pit bulls: Focus on the dog, not the breed

Over the past 12 years that I have lived in Baltimore, I have grown to respect the caliber of reporting that I find in the Baltimore Sun. Over the past two years, I have seen significant stories researched and presented in impressive ways, even as your...

  21. Dangerous dogs are a problem; scapegoating pit bulls won't solve it

Sadly, pit bulls have acquired a bad reputation. They often attract irresponsible owners who encourage aggressive behavior. If a pit bull does attack, he's more likely to inflict serious injuries than other breeds, simply because of his strength. A pit...
