On Aug. 13, Rotary Club of Long Meadows' Boy Scout Troop 103 was invited to tour U.S. Navy Assault Craft Unit 4 at the Little Creek Amphibious Base in Norfolk, Va.
The Scouts were shown a video on the history of the Assault Craft Service from World War II to present day, and then they were allowed to board the Landing Craft Air Cushion Vehicle used to land troops and equipment from sea to land. It is capable of moving on top of the water and land using an air cushion powered by air. The Scouts were given a chance to climb into the pilot's seat and crew compartments.
The Scouts were invited back in future years to share their experiences with new Scouts.
