Robert Edward Cobb Sr., 77, of 18819 Rolling Road in Hagerstown, Md., passed away Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2012, at his home surrounded by his children.
Born Monday, June 4, 1934, in Bellows Falls, Vt., he was the son of Adelbert Romaine Cobb and Mildred Lawrence Cobb.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Bradish Cobb, in 2010.
He served in the U.S. Air Force for eight years, and later served in the U.S. Army Reserves for 12 years.
He was employed as a maintenance supervisor by Mack Trucks Inc., retiring after 15 years. He later was self-employed as a machine repairmen.
He was a member of Morris Frock American Legion Post 42. He was very active in youth sports and was the organizer of the Clear Spring Mid-Maryland Basketball League. Robert was an avid fisherman and camper, and especially enjoyed traveling and playing golf.
He is survived by his daughters, Pamela Schnebly and husband, John, of Clear Spring, Md., Patricia Hoover and husband, Gerald, of Marion, Pa., and Kristina Hoover and husband, Jeffrey, of Greencastle, Pa.; one son, Robert E. Cobb Jr. and wife, Pamela, of Hagerstown, Md.; sister, Bertha Lawrence of Westminister, Vt.; grandchildren, J.C., Jeremy and Heather Schnebly, Trey and Trevor Cobb, Tiffany Wissinger and Kelsi Phillips, and Justin, Zachary, Alicen, Abigale, Ella and Erika Hoover; and great-grandchildren, Emma, Caroline, Brianna, Evan and Austin Schnebly, Trinity Wissinger, and Tenley and Ty Cobb.
He was preceded in death by sister, Bernice Cook; and brother, Hollis Cobb.
Services will be Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, with Pastor John Koontz Jr. officiating. Interment will be at St. Paul’s Cemetery, Clear Spring.
The family will receive friends Friday, Jan. 27, 2012, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial services in Vermont will be Saturday, March 24, 2012, at 11 a.m. at the First Congregational Church of Westminster.
