Born Sept. 19, 1948, in Alleghany County, Va., he was a 1967 graduate of Northeast High School in Pasadena, Md.
Ray was self-employed for many years as a painting contractor.
He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Chewsville, Md., and had many Christian brothers and sisters at Mount Zion United Methodist Church in Myersville, Md., and in the Maryland Emmaus community.
In addition to his wife of 29 years, Barbara, he is survived by his most precious children, David Tolley and wife, Teri, of Crownsville, Md., Rebecca Tolley of Millersville, Md., Amy Moore and husband, Glen, of Rocky Mount, N.C., and Adam Tolley and wife, Meredith, of Middletown, Md. His pride and joy were his 14 beautiful grandchildren, Steven, Logan, Eli, Annabelle, Madison, Karis, Brandon, Emmaline, Caden, Faith, Aiden, Owen, Beau and Carson. He leaves his siblings, Elva, J.T., Bobby and Herb. He also will be mourned by a very special nephew, Duane Freter; and cousin, Les Williams; in addition to countless nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Hazel and Mike Andrzejwski; father, Robert Hughes Tolley; and brother, Richard.
All are welcome to a memorial service Sunday, June 10, 2012, at 3 p.m. at Bethel United Methodist Church of Chewsville, 21006 Twin Springs Drive, Smithsburg, Md., followed by a church social, potluck-style celebration of life in the church social hall.
