Ms. Coffin attended South Hagerstown High School and Susquehanna College in Pennsylvania.
After graduating from American University in Washington, D.C., with a degree in theater arts, Ms. Coffin joined the Department of State in 1975. She retired in 2007. Her postings included Japan, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Spain, Turkey, El Salvador, Mexico and Washington, D.C., mostly in the cultural affairs arena with the U.S. Information Agency and the Public Diplomacy Sector of State.
She was an enthusiastic supporter of cross-cultural exchange to expand the understanding between peoples of the United States and other countries, and took great pride in organizing programs and projects that brought American culture to some of the far-flung corners of the world.
In addition to her work, Ms. Coffin enjoyed singing in choruses and participating in little theater wherever she was posted. She was a skilled knitter and crocheter who donated most of her work to charity. Ms. Coffin was also an enthusiastic traveler who visited every continent, and had hoped to spend much of her retirement exploring them in more detail.
Ms. Coffin was born in El Paso, Texas. Her father, A.E. “Jeff” Coffin, died in 1973.
She is survived by her mother, Doris B. Dillon; a stepbrother, Dan Dillon; and two cousins in Brazil.
