“Waynesboro caller, on the payroll tax cut: This will have to be paid back because payroll tax funds Medicare. Listen, Democrats ran the House since ’07, Demo president and Senate until Republicans became the majority less than one year ago. President Obama and his men did nothing to create a budget. First thing Obama did was work on Obamacare instead of jobs. He cut Medicare by $500 billion. All his stimuluses have failed to get America ahead. We are further in debt and (have) higher unemployment. Unions, enviromentalists profited, and Obama’s gambling on ‘green jobs’ with our money and his campaign donors profited, like Solyndra.”
Red Cross, who helped us find lodging for the night and reminded us of all of the things we needed to do. Also all our neighbors who were there for us, and all of our friends and co-workers ...who gave so generously. We would like to say thank you to all the people we didn’t know who went out of their way to make sure we were OK. Thank you, everyone, and may God bless you for your kindness.”
“I’ve wondered if a lot of younger voters don’t have the impression that Medicare will be virtually free or cost a minimal amount by the time they’re eligible. Yesterday I added up this year’s rise in cost for my husband’s and my Medicare Part A hospitalization, Part B supplemental insurance, and Part D Medicine insurance plans. We will be paying over $700 a month out of our combined $2,000 a month Social Security benefit, and this does not include copays for prescriptions or over-the-counter drugs which are usually prescribed. Roughly one-third of our entitlement income. Small wonder I’m concerned about future congressional changes to the Medicare plan.”
“I do a lot of complaining in Mail Call, but this time I want to hope and pray that everyone has a nice Christmas and New Year and 2012 — well, maybe not the tax man or Congress.”
— Greencastle, Pa.
“Another reason for me to stay out of Hagerstown. Big brother is watching you. I can’t believe the council is agreeing to add more cameras. People in Hagerstown may not mind being watched, but I sure do, and I bet most people who don’t live there don’t like it either. I think it is another clue as to how serious crime is becoming in the city.”
— Waynesboro, Pa.
“Hagerstown caller, besides Mitt Romney objecting to bringing all the troops home from Iraq, so did some Democrats. Many in the Senate, Congress and military don’t think Iraq is ready to defend itself. Iran has already made comments about the Americans investing money in Iraq and the fact that Iran may try to take Iraq. Iraq is rich in oil. We still have troops in Germany, South Korea, Japan, etc., 60 years after World War II. Sen. Obama voted against funding the troops in 2007 (also Hillary), accused them of killing villagers, now he wants to take the credit. It’s an election year. Funny things happen.”
“House Republicans refuse to raise taxes on the rich but are eager to raise the payroll tax on us working stiffs. Why do Republicans hate the middle class and poor?”
— Harpers Ferry, W.Va.
“This is a warning to all political candidates. If you call me or do a robocall to my phone, you have lost my vote.”
“I’d like to make a comment to the person who was fussing about the Ravens, Baltimore Ravens. Listen, you have nothing to be ashamed of. They’ve got a better record than the Washington Redskins do. That team’s 5 and 9. The Ravens have made the playoffs for the last four years in a row, so what are you fussing about?”
“I’m calling about the deer pictures. Why do they complain about the other pictures, dead ones, when all these dead deer laying on the road that cars hit? If they’d know how deer are, how much damage they can do and how they can hurt people, they wouldn’t complain.”
“It is Wednesday morning and it is about 10, and I just read ‘The night Santa came to Hagerstown’ from the Morning Herald. It is positively delightful. Whoever thought about it, whoever wrote it, whoever put it together did a marvelous, marvelous job. That’s a great gift for Christmas here early.”
