The Washington County Health Department, Division of Behavioral Health Services was recently one of the recipients of the 2013 Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration Science and Service Awards for the Treatment of Opioid-related Disorders.
The award recognizes excellence in opioid treatment programs and providers who use medications approved by the FDA for the treatment of opioid-related disorders. The award also recognizes providers who have successfully implemented innovative services and/or practices that resulted in improved patient outcomes.

Back-to-school block party planned at church Aug. 10
The annual West End Back to School Block Party will be held Saturday, Aug. 10, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parking lot behind Washington Square United Methodist Church, 538 Washington Ave.
School supplies will be handed out to students accompanied by a parent or guardian. In addition, there will be food, games and music.

Winter Street school to introduce principal
Winter Street Elementary School is having a Hot Dog Days of Summer event for all Winter Street Elementary School students on Tuesday, July 30.
The event will include hot dogs, snow cones and music on the school’s playground from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
New school Principal Lura Hanks will be on hand to meet families and welcome them to the new school year.
Dance set for Saturday
The next dance of the Hagerstown Country Western Dance Association will have a “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” theme.
The dance will be held Saturday from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. at the Maugansville Ruritan Club, 18007 Maugans Ave. in Maugansville.
The line dance is open to the public. The dance is for singles and couples.
Admission costs $5 for members and $7 for nonmembers.
