The Williamsport Community Band has been invited to perform Sunday, June 30, along with the Detroit Metropolitan Choir, for the Commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg.
The concert will be held at the Basilica at The Seton Shrine in Emmitsburg, Md., beginning at 4 p.m. The concert takes place exactly 150 years to the day that Union troops camped there the night before the battle began.

On Saturday, June 29, the Williamsport Community Band will be at Fort Detrick’s Fourth of July Concert, performing at 8 p.m., followed by fireworks.
Free concert set at Rehoboth church
Rehoboth United Methodist Church, 30 E. Salisbury St., will host a free concert with Caleb and Karla Bolaños on Friday, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., in the Sanctuary of the church.

Leo Club to hold spaghetti dinner
The Springfield Middle School Leo Club, which is a youth extension of the Williamsport Lions Club, will hold a summer spaghetti dinner at Sunday from 12:30 to 4 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, 35 W. Potomac St. in Williamsport.
The menu includes spaghetti with meat sauce, bread and butter, coffee, tea or water. Desserts will also be available.
Cost will be a freewill donation. All donated proceeds will go toward the purchase of a Lions Club drinking fountain for Byron Memorial Park.

‘Retreat through Williamsport’ tours
On July 12 through 14, the Town of Williamsport and the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Park Service will host the 150th anniversary of the “Retreat through Williamsport.”
Living history will focus on the events in the area during Gen. Robert E. Lee’s retreat from Gettysburg, Pa., and Williamsport’s role during the Civil War.
Two guided bus tours are scheduled in conjunction with the anniversary. On Wednesday, July 10, a bus tour will depart Springfield Farm at 9 a.m. for Gettysburg battlefield for a tour of the many sites where the most deadly battle of the Civil War took place. The tour will be led by author and historian J. David Petruzzi.
On Friday, July 12, Lee’s Retreat from Gettysburg “One Continuous Fight” will include a guided bus tour led by author Eric Wittenberg. Board the bus in Williamsport, travel to Gettysburg and visit the battlefields of Monterey Pass, Smithsburg, Funkstown, Hagerstown, Boonsboro, Williamsport, Fairfield, St. James and the Battle of Falling Waters site.
The cost for each tour is $60 per person. Lunch, drinks and snacks will be provided.
