Betty V. (Henry) "Grandma" Lutz, 82, passed away peacefully at the home of her granddaughter and companion, Archie, on Friday, Dec. 31, 2010, surrounded by her loving family and friends.
Born June 17, 1928, in Shippensburg, Pa., she attended Chambersburg Area Schools and was of Catholic faith.
She attended St. Joseph’s and St. Augustine Church in Hagerstown.
Betty had been employed at the Public Opinion in Chambersburg. She then went on to work at Regency Thermographers in Waynesboro, Pa., as a typographer, until her retirement in 1991.
Grandma Betty enjoyed meeting and talking with her family and friends, and was known for her love of cooking and a good cup of coffee, but especially for her love of angels.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Wayne T. Lutz; a son, Darrel Mitchell; a brother, Gordon Henry; and a sister, Leola Gipe.
Betty is survived by two daughters, Chris Heishman and husband, Gary, of Hagerstown, and Shawn Lutz and friend, Kenny, of Florida; three sons, Jeff Mitchell of Kennett Square, Pa., Mike Henry and wife, Tina, of Funkstown, and Tom Lutz and friend, Kelly, of Connecticut. Betty loved her grandchildren as if they were her own. She is survived by 10 grandchildren, Tiffany Lutz, Tristen Shifflett, Jennifer Murray, Jaime Heishman, Jeffrey Mitchell, Brian Mitchell, Cinda Beth Hare, Pam Naugle, Angelina Hettinger and Chelsea DeStefano; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2011, at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with Pastor George Snyder officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.
Friends will be received Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
