St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center was founded in 1897 by Mother Ann Valencia and the Sisters of Saint Joseph, who came to Hartford from Chambery, France. Nearly 2,100 medical students, interns, residents, fellows, student nurses and other healthcare students receive education at Saint Francis each year. Through its parent organization, Saint Francis Care, Saint Francis maintains affiliations with Bristol Hospital and Saint Mary's Hospital, Waterbury, as well as Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Centers and Connecticut VNA Partners.
