Founded in 1854, Hartford Hospital is an 868-bed facility -- one of the largest teaching hospitals in New England. The hospital's divisions include the Institute of Living, a nationally known 110-bed psychiatric center, and Jefferson House, a 104-bed long-term care and assisted living facility. Hartford Hospital handles 80,000 visits to its emergency room and delivers about 4,000 babies a year. The hospital claims cardiology, oncology, orthopedics, women's health and mental health as centers of excellence. It is also one of the early centers to offer robotic surgery.
