Police officer says routine call could have turned deadly

Officer David McGann got a lot more than he bargained for on the night of June 25.

The 28-year police veteran was working a motor vehicle stop a little before 11 p.m. when another call came over his radio.

McGann, 54, got back in his cruiser and checked the description of the call. It was a noise complaint, a dispute between neighbors over loud music. It's the type of call officers get every night. Routine.

He headed to 13 Locke Drive to meet the complainant.

As the first officer to arrive, McGann got out of his cruiser and approached the house, which was dark. Floodlights, however, illuminated the driveway.
