Without some changes, the future of health-care accessibility doesn't add up well for Florida. The state is staring down the barrel of a serious doctor shortage: According to a 2015 analysis by the Safety Net Hospitals of Florida, there's an 11 percent gap between the number of doctors Florida has, and the number it needs. By 2025, Florida could be nearly 7,000 doctors short, and in some specialties such as psychiatry, surgery and rheumatology, the gap is far more drastic.
