  1. With two degrees, Calvert Hall grad Bobby Lucas Jr. armed for success in Nationals' system and off the field

Bobby Lucas Jr. has an out pitch. It's not a 99 mph fastball that makes hitters flail or a nasty curve that causes them to freeze. It's the confidence that comes from having completed his education at George Washington University after being drafted last year by the Washington Nationals.

  5. Denver vs. Loyola: Three things to watch

Loyola and Denver will meet in the NCAA tournament for the first time, but it’s the third contest in five weeks between the Eastern College Athletic Conference rivals. The top-seeded Greyhounds (15-1) won the first two meetings and have absorbed just one loss at the hands of Johns Hopkins on April 28, but this is their first appearance in a tournament quarterfinal since 2001. The Pioneers (9-6) experienced this stage of the tournament last May when they stunned the Blue Jays to advance to their first Final Four in school history. Here are a few factors that could influence the outcome of this NCAA tournament quarterfinal at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis Saturday afternoon.

  9. Could Jah Reid be the Ravens' answer at left guard?

The Ravens’ Plan A at left guard was re-signing Pro Bowl performer Ben Grubbs, who eventually signed with the New Orleans Saints. Plan B was an aggressive bid at free agent Evan Mathis, who opted Saturday to re-sign with the Philadelphia Eagles.

  15. Plan B ruling the right decision

  17. Obama's Plan B decision puts girls at risk

A society is at its worst when it leaves its most vulnerable citizens exposed so that its most powerful can hide from ugly realities. In the case of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius' ruling to reject the Food and Drug Administration's expert opinion regarding access to emergency contraception for adolescent girls, the ugly reality is that teenage girls engage in unprotected sexual intercourse. Unprotected from pregnancy due to lack of effective contraception, unprotected from sexually transmitted illnesses including HIV, unprotected from the aggressive sexual content of popular media and advertising, unprotected by social and family networks that ought to be looking out for them.

If a girl 16 or younger has had vaginal intercourse, she's been raped ("Plan B is overruled," Dec. 9). Few states allow marriage or consensual sex under the age of 17. Do we really want such a girl, afraid that she may become pregnant, to take her...

  21. Plan B is overruled

Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius' decision this week to overrule the Food and Drug Administration commissioner and refuse to authorize girls under age 17 to have over-the-counter access to the emergency contraceptive pill known as Plan B is exactly the kind of triumph of politics over science that one might expect of the last administration.
