Investigators believe a man who was killed Sunday morning in the North End was shot by an accomplice as they struggled with a man they intended to rob.
"At this time we believe it to be a robbery gone bad," police spokeswoman Nancy Mulroy said.
Mauldin and another man accosted Mark Brown, 43, as he was shoveling snow on Martin Street at about 11 a.m. and tried to rob Brown at gunpoint. A struggle ensued. Mauldin held Brown as his accomplice fired, but the bullet intended for Brown grazed Brown's head and struck Mauldin in the chest, fatally wounding him.
Brown's injury is not life-threatening, police said.
Police are seeking the accomplice.
