“Harbor,” which had its world premiere at Westport Country Playhouse last year, will open off-Broadway at Primary Stages, running from July through September.
No casting has been yet announced. The Westport cast featured Paul Anthony Stewart, Bobby Steggert, Kate Nowlin and Alexis Molnar.
The original designers will be part of the New York production: Andrew Jackness, scenic design; Candice Donnelly, costume design; Japhy Weideman, lighting design; and John Gromada, sound design.
The comedy centers on Ted and Kevin, who have been together for 10 years and their upscale life on Sag Harbor home, and conflicts with Kevin’s sister Donna, who unexpectedly;y arrives with her 15-year-old daughter.
“Harbor” was named “The Best New Play of 2012” by BroadwayWorld.com.
In my review for The Hartford Courant I wrote: "Spending time in the Hamptons with a likable and stylish gay couple is time filled with bon mots, good cheer and perfect cocktails in Chad Beguelin's keenly observed comedy-drama at the Playhouse.
"But when the low-brow sister of one of the men drops in with her way-wise for her age 15-year-old daughter, things get complicated in this sometimes funny, sometimes sad clash of classes, life choices and relationships.
"Though sometimes veering close to stereotype and in need of some further character development, the play about the families we are born into, escape from, dream about, and fall into is nevertheless bright, engaging and bittersweet.
