Hartford—A week-long summer program sponsored by Leadership Greater Hartford introduced a group of teens to leadership skills and the value of helping others.
The group of two dozen teens from around the Greater Hartford area spent the week at Trinity College learning the requirements of leading and implementing a project. The students worked on cleaning up Dominick J. Burns Elementary school in Hartford. One of the students, Matt Stevens, said, "I chose this because making sure that the youth of this community can learn in a safe and aesthetically pleasing environment I think is pretty important."
Some students worked on creating new bulletin boards in the lobby of the building, and others scraped old paint off the doors and railings. Another group cleared the weeds from in the front of the school.
Staff from FOX CT spoke to the students about journalism, and how to shoot and construct a video story, throughout the week.
Bella Luciano, a student who participated in the program said, "I've also gotten leadership skills, which is very nice. You would think leadership is just a word, but they break it down for you."
