Northwest Catholic went unbeaten for the second straight season (19-0-1) and claimed its third Class M title in four seasons. The Indians' senior class was the best the school has ever seen and helped push the program's unbeaten streak to 40 games. Led by All-Americans Jess Fontaine and Cathy Higgins, the Indians have been called one of the best in state history.
Glastonbury had little trouble in its first three Class LL tournament games, then the Tomahawks ran into Newtown in the finals.
Portland's best season in program history ended just one victory short. After advancing to its first championship in Class S, Immaculate-Danbury defeated Portland 5-0 in the final. Portland won the Shoreline Conference championship and finished with a program-best 18 wins.
South Windsor had just three losses this season but they each came against the two top teams in the Class LL final. Glastonbury beat South Windsor twice and Newtown knocked off the Bobcats in the quarterfinals.
Middletown won 16 games for its best season in school history and were one of four teams in the state that entered the tournament with an unbeaten record.
It was another good year for Suffield despite losing to St. Joseph-Trumbull in the Class M quarterfinals. The Wildcats finished the season 15-1-2.
CCC East rivals Tolland and Rocky Hill had good regular seasons, but went different ways in the tournament. Tolland didn't make it out of the second round for the second straight year. Rocky Hill advanced to the semifinals under first-year coach AnnMarie Catania. ... Jason Stock also led Lewis Mills-Burlington to the semifinals in his first season.
After failing to make the Class LL tournament last season, Mercy-Middletown won 15 games and advanced to the quarterfinals for one of the best turnarounds this season.
