A repeat drunken driving offender was arrested after he crashed into a swamp last month in Van Buren County.

49-year-old John Anthony Tucker was charged with operating while intoxicated, 3rd offense, and operating while suspended, denied , or revoked.

Tucker was arraigned in 7th district court. He's currently been released after posting $25,000 bond.

At 10:25 p.m. on Friday, March 31st, the Van Buren County Sheriff's Department responded to a report of a vehicle that had left the roadway and crashed into a swamp on the east side of 70th Street near 56th Avenue in Hartford Township.

When they arriving at the scene, deputies found a vehicle partially submerged in the swamp and Tucker along the roadway extremely wet from the swamp area that he had crashed into.

Deputies spoke with Tucker who admitted that he had drank too much alcohol to be driving and that his driver's license had been revoked due to two previous drunken driving arrests.

The investigation showed that Tucker was more than twice Michigan's legal alcohol limit of .08. The man was arrested for operating while intoxicated third or subsequent offense and driving with a revoked license, and was taken to the Van Buren County Jail.

The 49-year-old didn't sustain any injuries in the crash.
