Tomas Holmstrom has agreed to terms on a two-year deal that will bring the gritty, veteran forward back to the Detroit Red Wings.

The team confirmed the deal in a statement Friday morning. Additional terms were not disclosed. The 37-year-old Swede is expected to sign the deal on Friday or Monday.

Holmstrom's agent, Howard Gourwitz, tells Booth Newspapers his client is "excited and he's proud to stay here."

Holmstrom has been with the Wings since 1996, helping them win four Stanley Cups with his hard-nosed play in front of the net.

He finished with 25 goals and 20 assists in 68 games with the Wings last season, his 13th with the team.
