As a Baltimore resident I am embarrassed that Maryland hasn't taken more aggressive steps to harvest renewable resources like solar energy. Solar energy is a booming industry that is rapidly growing throughout the U.S. According to the Solar Energy Industries Association, there are now over 17,500 megawatts of cumulative solar electric energy capacity in the U.S., enough to power more than 3.5 million average American homes. By contrast to the national trend, Maryland is lagging in renewable energy sources. That must change.
