Cook County Forest Preserve

The Forest Preserve District of Cook County in Illinois covers 67,800 acres, which is 11 percent of the county. The Forest Preserve District was established in 1914, and the first piece of land, 500 acres, was acquired in 1916. Brookfield Zoo and the Chicago Botanic garden are both owned by the Forest Preserve District. The forest preserves offer more than 200 picnic groves, 100 miles of bicycle trails, 200 miles of multi-use trails, golf courses and toboggan slides.  Show more »
