How many roads must a travel columnist go down?
More than enough to compile a list of favorite scenic highways from the Gulf of Mexico to the Atlantic Ocean, from South Florida to the Georgia border. While the view often includes postcard-worthy beachfront vistas, there are also stretches of roads so picturesque that it's hard to imagine you're in Florida.
One of those stretches, the two-lane blacktop of State Road 12 about 25 miles west of Tallahassee, is a respite from the tedium of driving Interstate 10. Heading west, the path to well-known destinations such as Panama City winds through locales that rarely turn up on tourist brochures.
