Ellicott City couple puts Christmas spirit on the road in fire company's Santa Detail

Craig and Kat Ralston do not celebrate the weeks leading up to Christmas in typical fashion.

The couple happily volunteer dozens of hours as Santa and Mrs. Claus, traveling to meet Ellicott City residents on their neighborhood streets on a custom-made sleigh pulled by an SUV in lieu of eight tiny reindeer.

Guiding the convoy instead of Rudolph and his shiny nose is a fire engine with lights flashing and siren blaring. An ambulance or other piece of emergency equipment brings up the rear.

In recent years the Santa Detail has added some modern upgrades, such as live tweeting to help followers pinpoint their location, but it is mainly a nod to the lore of Christmases...
