1. Acceptable level of TV violence is ever shifting for viewers, execs

To any viewer who thinks "Sons of Anarchy" is too violent, consider the bright side: At least the castration scene got … um … deleted.

  3. Film, TV violence is an intensely sensitive subject for some

Years after she first saw "The Passion of the Christ," Lori Pearson still feels queasy when she recalls the brutally graphic movie about the final hours of Jesus' life.

  5. Go away with Laurie Holden

Born in Los Angeles and raised in Toronto, Laurie Holden currently resides in Atlanta, where "The Walking Dead" is filmed. The actress plays Andrea on the popular series, which is AMC's highest-rated show. An avid traveler, Holden encourages people to get out and explore the world, and help others in need. "I highly recommend joining a volunteer organization," she says. "There's no better experience than becoming part of the solution. I did this, myself. I worked in a daycare center for HIV orphans and it changed my life forever."

  7. 'The Walking Dead' recap: Do whatever you're going to do

With one week to go until the midseason finale, "The Walking Dead" seems to be seeding the ground with gunpowder in anticipation. The impact of this episode comes less from violence than the threat of violence, which, as we see several times, can be just as effective as the real thing. Fear isn't pain, after all -- it's the anticipation of pain, an imagining of what might happen. The best way to make people do what you want isn't necessarily to do something bad to them; it's to make them think that you will.

  11. 'The Walking Dead' recap: Woodbury goes to war

Honestly, “Home” threatened to be a bit of a bore for me until its well-nigh transcendent final 10 minutes. But those final 10 minutes were so good that they ended up boosting my opinion of the episode as a whole quite a bit. Hey, if you’re going to nail something in an episode of TV, you may as well nail the ending and leave everybody with a good taste in their mouths.

  15. Guide to February 2013 TV premieres, specials, movies

Every February we celebrate Valentine's Day and Black History Month, but this one is extra special because we welcome NBC's "Community" back to TV after too long a hiatus. It's also when the high-profile Netflix series, "House of Cards," debuts. Back on the regular TV, "The Walking Dead" and "SouthLand" are back. As usual, I may have missed something, so let me know. And check back, I'll update regularly.

  21. 'The Walking Dead' recap: Let's have a little talk

My favorite moment of any given “Walking Dead” episode is the moment leading out of the teaser and into the opening credits, when the buzzing, anxious strings of the show’s theme song gradually crowd whatever is happening on screen off it so the audience can stare at some images of the world after the zombie apocalypse arrives.
