  1. Like/dislike: Nick Prevas

Nick Prevas is truly an “artist of all trades.” The 30-year-old Charles Village resident writes and directs films, works on graphic design projects, plays guitar and sings in the band White Lodge. He even handles communications and media for the American Visionary Arts Museum. Originally from Highland, Prevas tells b that there’s no place he’d rather be than Baltimore: “There’s just an energy to our city like no place else. I lived in L.A. for a few years and couldn’t ever get the vibe there like I can in Charm City. There’s no pretense (most of the time), you can connect with genuinely creative and talented people and there’s some weird inspiration I get from living here that just can’t be put down in words.” Through that inspiration, Prevas creates film shorts and music videos that have been shown at festivals and galleries across the country. Most recently, he co-produced a video of artist Scott Weaver showing his 100,000+ toothpick sculpture, “Rolling Through the Bay,” which you can see looping in AVAM’s current exhibition “All Things Round.” On Saturday, Prevas will perform with White Lodge at the Windup Space in a tribute to Tom Waits. Here, he talks to us about Soul Cannon (who he created album art for), his dislike for romantic comedies and the ambiguity of fanny packs.

  3. Matt Frazao, Out of Your Head co-founder

Originally from West Hartford, Conn., Matt Frazao moved to Baltimore to attend The Peabody Conservatory, where he earned a degree in classical guitar performance. At the start of 2009, he co-founded the Out of Your Head music collective with bassist Adam Hopkins to help expand the creative music scene in Baltimore. Frazao, 31, now co-curates the series with Jon Birkholz, arranging for groups of musicians who have never rehearsed or played together before to perform sets of improvised, original music. Along the way, Frazao has been playing and recording with several other bands including Soul Cannon, Quartet Offensive and many more. This week, the Baltimore musician talks to b about wobble bass, delicious sandwiches and more.

  7. Like/dislike: Mates of State

Since the late '90s, Mates of State have been a staple of the indie rock world. The husband-and-wife duo consists of Jason Hammel and Kori Gardner, who combine keyboard, drums and vocals to create energetic harmonies. Over the past 14 years, the Lawrence, Kan. natives have released seven albums and played with bands such as Jimmy Eat World and Death Cab for Cutie. On Tuesday their travels will take them to The <a href=&quot;http://findlocal.baltimoresun.com/remington/bars-and-clubs/bars-clubs/the-ottobar-baltimore-club">Ottobar</a>, where they will perform songs from their most recent album "Mountaintops." Here Kori gives us her take on high-waisted pants (a no-go), the Beiber movie (she cried) and more.

  15. AMC, Joan: How could you?

It's easier to watch 'Mad Men' despite a depressing development on Sunday's 'The Other Woman' episode
It's probably time to stick a fork in it. It's done. That would be AMC's"The Killing," which has become pretty lame. The season ends June 17, and if the series is renewed, I'm not sure I'd watch next time. Sunday's stupid episode had Linden (Mireille...
