7. Five questions for Derek Trucks

If you're a music fan of a certain age — say, perhaps, 41 — it may strike you as a bit disconcerting to listen to Derek Trucks talk about his kids. For there's a good chance that the first time you heard Trucks' name, he was an 11-year-old headlining act with an uncle in the Allman Brothers Band and an alarming talent for playing the blues. What the kid lacked in experience, he made up for in soul, favoring the slide-guitar style of his hero Duane Allman and none of the screaming, over-the-top theatrics typical of many young guitarists.

  9. Boca blues festival Saturday spotlighting national artists such as Dr. John

Even though he says, "I'm the worst with my memory banks, about as bad as you can get," Mac Rebennack remembers "the shift" that allowed him to become one with his onstage persona — the charismatic, extravagantly costumed, voodoo-preaching rock star known as Dr. John.

  11. Concert review: Sunshine Blues Festival in Boca Raton

Little starlight shone on the Sunshine Blues Festival Saturday at Boca Raton’s Mizner Park Amphitheater, inclement weather graying the skies and softening the ground, leaving no foot — clad or otherwise — free of mud. Star power, on the other hand, was in ample supply for the second show of this three-date, three-city event, which began Friday in Fort Myers and concludes Sunday in St. Petersburg.

  19. Rock and Sprawl: Tedeschi Trucks Band's Big, Retro Sound Returns to Connecticut

The ’70s was the era of the Big Family Band. Joe Cocker’s Mad Dogs and Englishmen toured with more than 30 musicians. The Grateful Dead, the Allman Brothers, Delaney and Bonnie and Friends (with Eric Clapton), Santana, the Mothers of Invention, George Harrison’s hybrid British-Indian ensembles, Bruce Springsteen’s E-Street Band, Lynyrd Skynyrd: they contained multitudes. They covered stages with equipment and players, rolled from venue to venue in tractor trailers like small armies, playing expansive, often bloated music.
