Matthew McConaughey got nude in Magic Mike. He now gets nude in Killer Joe. Next month, we see his butt crack in Plumber Pete. Okay, that last line isn’t really a movie. And Killer Joe isn’t really much of a movie, either. That’s a...

  3. Frank Pierson dies at 87; Oscar-winning screenwriter

A writer for as long as he could remember, Frank Pierson penned his most famous line, <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch%3Fv=1fuDDqU6n4o">"What we've got here is failure to communicate,"</a> decades ago for the 1967 script "Cool Hand Luke." At the time, he thought there was no way such a refined line would be allowed to be uttered by the redneck crew captain who has just taught Paul Newman's Luke a brutal lesson. To ensure the line stayed in, Pierson wrote an entire biography for the captain, one he never needed to use because no one ever questioned the quote that has since become one of the most iconic in movie history.

  9. Can a sequel undermine a classic film?: MGM wants to stop 'Raging Bull' sequel unsanctioned by studio

    Variety
If there's a certain futility to remaking classics in studio vaults, MGM's recent suit to stop a follow-up to "Raging Bull" is a reminder of the sacred ground one risks encroaching upon in making a sequel. Earlier this month, MGM filed suit against Jake...

Diana Nyad is back in the news. In the next few weeks, the swimming legend will attempt a 103-mile swim from Cuba to Florida, a feat she failed to accomplish in 1978, when she was in her late 20s. The 61-year-old athlete won worldwide fame in 1975 when she made a record-setting swim around Manhattan in less than eight hours. Four years later, Nyad set a distance record for swimming nonstop over open water from Bimini to Florida.

  21. Stars and style a good fit in celebrity product lines

Celebrity clothing brands have become a ubiquitous force in fashion, but this wasn't always the case. A decade ago, attaching a famous name to a mass-market brand was still fairly rare and was seen by some as a last alternative when movie scripts and TV offers slowed down.
