Owsley Stanley, left, was known as the "Acid King" of the '60s psychedlic era. He reputedly made more than 1 million doses of <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="HEDAR00193" title="LSD" href="/topic/health/drugs-medicines/lsd-HEDAR00193.topic">LSD</a>, much of which fueled <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="PECLB002777" title="Ken Kesey" href="/topic/entertainment/ken-kesey-PECLB002777.topic">Ken Kesey</a>'s notorious Acid Tests -- rollicking parties featuring all manner of psychedelic substances, strobe lights and music. Author <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="PEHST002139" title="Tom Wolfe" href="/topic/arts-culture/tom-wolfe-PEHST002139.topic">Tom Wolfe</a> chronicled the scene in his book "The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test."
