Southern rapper Lil Wayne, born Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., began his career as a member of rap group The Hot Boys -- but the prolific rapper is best known for his solo work. His solo debut, "Tha Block is Hot," went double platinum. "Tha Carter" and "Tha Carter II" were also chart-toppers.

Lil Wayne was catapulted to superstar status with the release of 2008's "Tha Carter III." The album featured several hits including "A Milli," "Mr. Carter" and "Lollipop." In 2008, Lil Wayne was the leading Grammy nominee, with a total of eight nominations.
