At an open-air studio in Rishikesh, India, Allison Korycki fell in love with yoga, participating in her first class as monkeys hung on the doors of the classroom. Now, the 25-year-old Korycki, who lives in Charles Village, is the director of operations at Charm City Yoga, where she teaches three classes a week. She took a breather to tell us her feelings about Meat Loaf and her favorite yoga pose.

  17. Coachella 2012: Snoop Dogg & Dr. Dre, The Black Keys, Santigold, and seven other must-watch acts

Just as winter begins to bum everyone out with its dropping temperatures and dark-by-4:30-p.m. routine, the newly liberated Coachella lineup has us daydreaming of spring and a weekend trip to the west coast. Seemingly every year, Coachella sets the standard for Important Music Festivals, and 2012 is no exception.

  21. 'The X-Factor' recap: Potential, not obvious talent, the key to getting through

THE SKINNY: More auditions. It was basically the same show as the first two, with more talent than the second but no where near what the first had. There was actual drama between the judges not agreeing on talent, and Fox wisely saved it for last. The thing to take away from Episode 3 was the judges were letting kids through even if they lacked the talent. They're looking for singers but also likeable personalities. Have the audience turn on you and you're of no use for the judges.

  23. Like/dislike: Nick Prevas

Nick Prevas is truly an “artist of all trades.” The 30-year-old Charles Village resident writes and directs films, works on graphic design projects, plays guitar and sings in the band White Lodge. He even handles communications and media for the American Visionary Arts Museum. Originally from Highland, Prevas tells b that there’s no place he’d rather be than Baltimore: “There’s just an energy to our city like no place else. I lived in L.A. for a few years and couldn’t ever get the vibe there like I can in Charm City. There’s no pretense (most of the time), you can connect with genuinely creative and talented people and there’s some weird inspiration I get from living here that just can’t be put down in words.” Through that inspiration, Prevas creates film shorts and music videos that have been shown at festivals and galleries across the country. Most recently, he co-produced a video of artist Scott Weaver showing his 100,000+ toothpick sculpture, “Rolling Through the Bay,” which you can see looping in AVAM’s current exhibition “All Things Round.” On Saturday, Prevas will perform with White Lodge at the Windup Space in a tribute to Tom Waits. Here, he talks to us about Soul Cannon (who he created album art for), his dislike for romantic comedies and the ambiguity of fanny packs.
