5. Review: Maroon 5, Train, Gavin DeGraw at Merriweather Post Pavilion Aug. 24

The smell of beer and fried food saturated the lawn and pavilion at Merriweather Post Pavilion. Packed for the co-headlining tour of Maroon 5 and Train, the concert brought generations together. Teens perspiring from Adam Levine-induced delirium mingled raucously with fans of adult alternative band Train and Gavin DeGraw.

  17. October 17 - October 23 in nightlife: J. Cole, Double Dagger, Jackson Browne

The third Baltimore Beer Week came to a close Sunday. Over 300 tastings, homebrewing competitions and lectures were squeezed into the event's 11 days, sending thousands of beer lovers to bars in the city and the county. How did this year's event compare to last year's? Heavy Seas' Hugh Sisson had said before the week started that one goal for 2011 was to spread out more events so that there would be more quality instead of just an abundance of stuff for fans to pick from. Were organizers successful? Are you happy bars will now "go back to being a beer bar, instead of a packed bingo parlor," as Baltimore Liquor Board chairman Stephan Fogleman has tweeted? This week, will be far more low-key. The major music story won't be happening in town, but in New York, where the CMJ Music Marathon will get underway Tuesday. In town: there are concerts by Jackson Browne, Double Dagger, and Ami Dang.
