Episode two starts off right to the point -- there will be no quickfire this week, we have no time for such nonsense! Right to the elimination challenge, which, if you watched last week's preview (or saw the title of this episode), is no surprise.

  13. In unpublished interview, Etta James talks about performing in Baltimore, Sam Cooke, and her legacy

In 2007, legendary singer Etta James was booked for the PAETEC Jazz Festival in downtown Baltimore. I interviewed her a few weeks before the show -- but she later had to back out due to health problems. Here is part of the interview, which was never published before. Apparently, when James used to play Baltimore back in the '50s and '60s, she was quite the target.

  15. 'The X-Factor' recap: Potential, not obvious talent, the key to getting through

THE SKINNY: More auditions. It was basically the same show as the first two, with more talent than the second but no where near what the first had. There was actual drama between the judges not agreeing on talent, and Fox wisely saved it for last. The thing to take away from Episode 3 was the judges were letting kids through even if they lacked the talent. They're looking for singers but also likeable personalities. Have the audience turn on you and you're of no use for the judges.
