3. 'West of Memphis': Trio still seeking justice ★★★

For astonishing injustice put to rest, at long last, the moviegoer has at least two options. One: "Les Miserables." And two: "West of Memphis," a strong, blood-boiling documentary from director Amy Berg, who made the similarly fine "Deliver Us From Evil," about a defrocked Catholic priest's appalling crimes and those of his protectors.

5. Buddy Miller, Jim Lauderdale take 30-year journey to first album together

Buddy Miller and Jim Lauderdale are a couple of Nashville mavericks who’ve written, sang, played on or produced some of the best records of the last 25 years. They’re best friends who live just a few blocks from each other in Nashville, and yet they’ve never made an album together – until now.

11. 'West of Memphis' review: Haunting no matter how much you already know

*** (out of four)
*** (out of four) The moral of the story, among many others in “West of Memphis,” is that there’s always more to the story. This controversial case would have been totally different if not for turtles. (You’ll see.) A deeply...

15. Daum: Christopher Hitchens gets the last laugh

As fans of the late Christopher Hitchens cycle through the five stages of grief, it's interesting to see which of his opinions can still inspire the kind of anger that is unlikely to ever fade into acceptance. There are, of course, the obvious candidates: his characterization of Bill Clinton as "a rapist" or his vilification of Mother Teresa as "a fanatic, a fundamentalist, and a fraud." There is also his oh so chivalrous shout-out to the Dixie Chicks, whom he called "fat slugs" (or "slags" or "sluts" depending on your source) despite later admitting "having not the least idea of what any of them looked like."
