Kendrick Lamar led the way with five Grammys at the 58th annual awards Monday, including one for rap album of the year for “To Pimp a Butterfly.” But it was Taylor Swift who walked away with the top prize, album of the year, for “1989.”
Swift shouted out to young women to “focus on the work” so that they could one day look back at their accomplishments and “know that it was you … who put you there.”
“Uptown Funk,” the Mark Ronson-Bruno Mars collaboration, won for record of the year. It was a night of Grammy firsts for many performers, notably Ed Sheeran, who won for song of the year (“Thinking Out Loud”).
