  1. Preakness infield party still raucous, but tamer than years past

There were still drunken 20-somethings. Still crowds making a ruckus. And people throwing up after one too many beers.
There were still drunken 20-somethings. Still crowds making a ruckus. And people throwing up after one too many beers. But this year — unlike at recent Preakness Stakes when infield crowds gained a reputation for debauchery and rowdy stunts like...

  3. Little Big Town welcomes pop to its country world

Country circles have debated it for decades: Is crossing over to the pop mainstream good or bad for country music, a genre so steeped in tradition?

  5. Like/Dislike: Megan Walburn, WJZ executive producer

The summer before Megan Walburn's senior year at Washington College she met someone at a cookout who worked at WJZ. Soon there was a writing test. Then a gig freelancing.

  7. 'Dancing with the Stars' recap: Episode 2, or the Sherri Shepherd lovefest

Welcome to Week 2! Given that all the dancers last week were either good dancers or good sports or both, I'm particularly happy this is a season that didn't have a week 1 elimination. I'm looking forward to seeing everybody dance again.

  9. 'The Voice' recap: Episode 4

Man, those judges on “The Voice” did some major work tonight, scooping up more talented hopefuls as we endured (enjoyed?) another week of blind auditions. I seem to have forgotten that this show is a marathon, not a sprint – but we’re so close to finishing the first stretch of the race.

  13. Tonight!: Wiz Khalifa and Snoop Dogg at 9:30 Club

This surprise show, headlined by hip-hop's most popular potheads, sold out quickly, unsurprisingly. This year was Wiz's breakthrough year, scoring hits and Grammy nominations (two for "Black and Yellow," sorry Ravens fans) from his major-label debut, "Rolling Papers." And, well, Snoop is Snoop, a veteran who has transformed from a great rapper to a consistently OK rapper. On record together, they both sound charismatic and at home bragging about their weed habits and the like. The duo's film, "Mac and Devin Go to High School," doesn't have a release date but the soundtrack does — next Tuesday.

  15. Grammys 2012: Stay home if you're not Adele

Welcome to the Adele show. Just as she dominated radio this past year, Adele will likely walk away with a handful of shiny gramophones on Sunday night (8 p.m., WJZ/CBS). But this is show business - there are no guarantees (except that host LL Cool J will make us cringe at least 12 times). There will be performances, of course - Bruce Springsteen, Paul McCartney, Nicki Minaj and even Adele, taking a stage for the first time since vocal cord surgery. And then there are the awards. Check out our breakdown of the four major categories, including predictions on who should and will win.

  17. 'The Voice' recap: Episode 3, Gaithersburg's Erin Willet joins Team Blake

Another week of blind auditions on NBC’s “The Voice,” and another two hours to boil down into a single blog post. A nice change of pace this week for the audience: Instead of clipped montages of contestants who didn’t make the cut onto Adam Levine’s, Cee Lo Green’s, Christina Aguilera’s or Blake Shelton’s teams, the clipped montages were of contestants who did, in fact, get slots in the competition.

  19. Grammy nominations: Put your money on Adele

Voicing disappointment over Grammy nominations is similar to complaining to your friends at recess that your 70-year-old teacher just "doesn't get it." In other words, it's pointless, other than feeling slightly better that you made the injustice known to people who can't do a thing about it.

  21. Like/dislike: Charles Ostrander

This year marks Charles Ostrander’s fifth Black Friday with Best Buy. The 31-year-old Essex resident currently works at the store’s branch in White Marsh as a Mobile Manager. On Friday, he will be working a 14-hour day consisting of two 7-hour shifts with a couple hours of break in between. But according to Ostrander, the excitement of the day is so intense that the time goes by quickly. “I have always called it the ‘Super Bowl of Retail’ because it’s ‘go time,’” he explains. “This is where retail’s best establishments go all-out for their customers and is kind of the kickoff for the holiday shopping season.” But what about the madness and horror stories we always hear about Black Friday shopping? Ostrander tells b that Best Buy has solid plans in place every year to keep things organized and running efficiently. The weirdest thing that has ever happened at his branch? On one unseasonably warm Black Friday, Ostrander arrived at 3 a.m. to find customers playing a game of football in the parking lot. Read on to see what Ostrander has to say about hardcore rock music, face-plants and the downside to the invention of GPS.
