1. 'Flashdance — The Musical' heading to the Hippodrome

If such golden oldies as "Maniac," "I Love Rock 'n' Roll" and, of course, "Flashdance… What a Feeling" still run through your head, there's a show heading to Baltimore ready to scoop you up in a wave of feel-good nostalgia.

5. Movies under the stars for every day of the workweek

Baltimore is one city where crowds come out in the heat of the night to take in open-air movies.
Baltimore is one city where crowds come out in the heat of the night to take in open-air movies. In mid-July last year, when the thermometer was hitting 95 in the day and stalling in the 80s past midnight, fun-seekers swarmed to Federal Hill to watch...

7. 'Dancing With the Stars' recap, semifinals results

The judges pick an encore, but given the way the stage is set up, it's clear the audience knows what the routine will be. Judging from the screams, it must be William -- and it is. The white pants of infinite tightness are BACK, baby. This is not the same routine that got a 30 last night -- William's pants are whole-assing it, but he's only half-assing this dance.

The Charleston Gazette, W.Va.
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Tiny Dominique Carino stood in the middle of the second floor hallway at the University of Charleston's pharmacy school and bellowed, "Quiet! Be still!" and then, "Rolling!" Others repeated her words and passed them down the...

13. Review: 'Flashdance the Musical' breaks out leg warmers and '80s camp

This review has been corrected. See below for details.
This review has been corrected. See below for details. "Flashdance the Musical" has its way over "Flashdance" the movie in at least one critical regard: The show's plucky heroine — as you'll recall: welder by day! nonstripping stripper by night!...

17. Slate: Every Tom Cruise pic is about Tom Cruise

NEW YORK — Tom Cruise is one of the world's most visible people, and one of its least seen. Movie stars, like politicians or other public figures, learn early on how to feign candor while keeping themselves hidden, revealing enough to give their adoring public a feeling of personal connection while keeping their private selves private. But in the course of more than three decades in the public eye, Cruise has lost the art of authenticity. Queue up the talk show appearances promoting his new movie, Oblivion, on YouTube, and you'll see an endless procession of gigawatt grins, gleaming teeth stretching from Burbank to Manhattan. What you won't see is a single genuine or unstudied moment, a glimpse of the man sealed inside that inch-thick coating of industrial-grade charisma. Compare any of those interviews with a 25-year-old clip of Cruise on "Oprah" (long before his infamous couch dance), where he seems visibly nervous and a little bit lost — in a word, human. Watch enough of Cruise, and you start to wonder if there's anyone in there at all.
