2. 'Help' yourself to some rich cinema soul food

Nothing leaves movie-lovers feeling more nourished and content than a good drama. Watching a finely observed human struggle played out on screen is like cinema soul food, providing sustenance through its vital new connection to the world.

4. Made in Oregon road film

The News Tribune
"Redwood Highway" could be labeled a coming-of-age film but for one small disqualifier: Its protagonist is a 75-year-old woman. Call it instead a coming-of-the-aged drama. Veteran actress Shirley Knight plays Marie, a woman living in a retirement...

6. 'Admission' wait-listed on the way to greatness ★★ 1/2

A fraught romantic comedy, shot through with anxiety about getting your child into an Ivy League school or else, "Admission" stars Tina Fey as a Princeton University admissions officer with a secret. Her genial foil is Paul Rudd, who runs a rural New Hampshire high school that's a progressive Eden of alternative educational grooviness. How these two nice, attractive, funny people find each other is up to the machinery of the source material, a novel by Jean Hanff Korelitz, adapted with mixed success for the screen by Karen Croner and directed with a calming glow by Paul Weitz, whose attention to relational detail was evident in "About a Boy," "In Good Company" and, more recently, "Being Flynn".

12. 'Our Idiot Brother' review: Don't judge a person by his beard

*** (out of four)
RedEye movie critic
*** (out of four) If Tigger were slower, calmer—and human—he might be like Ned (Paul Rudd), a likable optimist who’s never held a steady job and isn’t that concerned about it. His sisters (Elizabeth Banks, Zooey Deschanel, Emily...

14. MOVIE REVIEW: "Our Idiot Brother" $8/10

I assume most people have somebody in their life that will remind them of Ned, the title character in "Our Idiot Brother."
WGN Feature Reporter
I assume most people have somebody in their life that will remind them of Ned, the title character in "Our Idiot Brother." Long hair, scruffy, coasting through life. Worried most about how they're going to get down to the spillway that day, or if it's...

Zap2It
Maybe "New Girl" could have been made without Zooey Deschanel, but it's hard to imagine. Virtually no other current performer so perfectly embodies the kooky, endearing quality required by the Fox sitcom that debuts Tuesday, Sept. 20. "I would like to...
