Mickey Rourke

Highlights
Mickey Rourke

Mickey Rourke started out with a promising acting career with memorable roles in "Diner," "Body Heat," and "Nine 1/2 Weeks." As time went on, Rourke earned a reputation as a difficult star, and the roles started to dry up. The comeback story of 2008 was Rourke's portrayal of washed-up Randy 'The Ram' Robinson in "The Wrestler," in which he earned an Oscar nomination and won a Golden Globe. Rourke is also known for his love of his dogs (he thanked them during his Globes acceptance speech) and his boxing prowess.  Show more »

  1. The Collaborators: The force behind Baltimore's top filmmakers

Casting director Pat Moran, a co-founder of John Waters' Dreamland Films, helped create the human tapestries that give Waters' midnight specials their Fellini-like ebullience. But she has also done her part to imbue such Barry Levinson memory plays as "Avalon" and "Liberty Heights" with their gnarly warmth and David Simon's hard-hitting TV shows, "The Corner" and "The Wire," with their bluesy grit.

  3. With 'Hannah Montana' looming in the rearview mirror, is it time for Miley to move on?

Look at the tags on those Miley Cyrus dolls. Read the fine print on her CDs. Check the label on those Miley jeans you bought at Wal-Mart. There is a limited warranty on teenage stardom. Miley has been in the spotlight for 3 1/2 years. Her reign as the...

  5. Laying away some Matusz for later is smart

News item: Orioles rookie Brian Matusz was shut down this week after delivering an impressive last performance of 2009 against the Yankees in New York. My take: It was the right move for all the right reasons. Matusz went 16-4 with a 2.68 ERA at three...

Let us now praise Comic-Con. On the occasion of the 10th annual Baltimore Comic-Con, it's time to celebrate comic-book fans and what they've wrought. By providing an audience for comic books that shared the concerns and upheld the standards of literary...

  11. The Passion Play Of A Fan Possessed

Films without end have been made about the heroes of sport, but who speaks for the fans? Who especially speaks for the fanatic, the zealot who devotes an entire life to a team with the single-minded intensity of a monk meditating in a cave? "Big Fan" does, exceptionally well.

  13. Chicago White Sox's Kenny Williams takes a crack at comedy

You have to wonder sometimes what it takes to get Ken Williams to crack a smile. But it appears the White Sox general manager is willing to provide a laugh for a good cause because at 7 p.m. Friday, he will be a celebrity guest in a comedy charity...

  15. Chris Isaak a continuing musical force with his moody crooning and soaring falsetto

    Of The Morning Call
One downside to agreeing to interview roots rock singer Chris Isaak via e-mail -- his preferred method -- is that when his wry sense of absurdist humor rears itself, there's no opportunity to pin him down for a serious answer. So, for example, when he'...

  19. Another Sad Tale Of Avoiding Age At All Costs

During the great performer's last year of life, a rock critic wrote of him: "His hair is dyed, his teeth are capped ... his voice is a husk, and his eyes film over with glassy impersonality. He is no longer, it seems, used to the air and, because he...

  23. 'The Informers': the era of self-absorption

An awful film about an awful time. Maybe The Informers is on to something. Shallow and pretentious, filled with characters who wear their vapidness like some bizarre badge of honor, The Informers thinks it has something important (or at least valid) to...
