Awkward 'Road' trips with Kristen Stewart
"I was 16, 17, maybe, when I spoke with Walter for the first time," Kristen Stewart is saying about director Walter Salles, whose film version of the Jack Kerouac novel "On the Road" premiered as one of the competition titles (unawarded, as it turned out)...

Kerouac opus 'On the Road' hits just enough beats ★★★
An eternal fountain of adolescence, Jack Kerouac's "On the Road" went through many permutations between its point of origin, 1948, and its point of notorious, divisive publication, 1957. The best description of it came from Kerouac himself, in a journal...

Video/Q&A: Greta Gerwig of 'Damsels in Distress'
In 2006, Greta Gerwig was living in Logan Square, making her first movie (Joe Swanberg’s “LOL”) and fighting off a heat wave. “We didn’t have air conditioning,” she recalls, “so we had to just put a bowl of ice...

By the finale, 'Twilight' vampire series is mostly anemic ★ 1/2
The fifth and very likely final "Twilight" picture boasts one moment, perhaps three or four seconds in length, so delightfully intense and uncharacteristically juicy that the rest of the film — most of the rest of the whole series, in fact —...

'Beautiful Creatures' review: Full of love, not that pretty
**1/2 (out of four) Among many reasons the “Twilight” movie franchise didn’t work, Edward (Robert Pattinson) and Bella (Kristen Stewart) make lousy characters, separately and together. Be it the script, the performances, whatever: The...

'Cosmopolis' review: Robert Pattinson's most interesting performance by a mile
*** (out of four) None of Robert Pattinson’s roles have fully lined up with his shifty absent-mindedness. In “Twilight,” he tries to make Edward mysterious and tortured, but comes off as vacant. In this year’s “Bel Ami,&...Tags: Robert Pattinson, David Cronenberg, Paul Giamatti, Tragedy (genre), Cosmopolis (movie)

Q&A: 'Hit and Run' star/writer/co-director Dax Shepard
Since tackling more serious material than, say, “Without a Paddle” or “Employee of the Month,” with the excellent indie “The Freebie” and NBC’s solid “Parenthood,” Dax Shepard has noticed that...

Q&A: 'Twilight' star Robert Pattinson
(originally published Nov. 17, 2008) In conversation, "Twilight" star and sudden mega-heartthrob Robert Pattinson frequently breaks into a giddy, surprised laugh—like he can't believe the silliness of becoming, seemingly overnight, the sort of...

Q&A: Kristen Stewart of 'The Runaways'
(originally published March 15, 2010) No, Kristen Stewart did not actually urinate on a guitar while playing Joan Jett in “The Runaways.” It just looks like it in the movie. She did, however, sing and play guitar, and she does a pretty...
