IMAX is short for Image Maximum, a film format that can show images larger and with higher resolution than images displayed at most movie theaters. The Museum of Discovery and Science in Fort Lauderdale has a 5-story-high single screen IMAX theater featuring 300 stadium-styled seats, a 15,000-watt digital sound system and 42 speakers. The theater plays 3D movies made specifically to work with IMAX projectors. They show both educational and mainstream movies, such as Dinosaurs Alive! 3D, Happy Feet, and Beowulf.
