  1. 'American Horror Story Asylum' finale recap, 'Madness Ends'

    After a season of blood-curdling thrills set in the 1960s, we've come full circle to modern times. Now we can all sleep easy for a few months.
    After a season of blood-curdling thrills set in the 1960s, we've come full circle to modern times. Now we can all sleep easy for a few months. Unlike the Season 1 finale where viewers were left on a cliffhanger, the show's writers tied this season up...

  3. Dark Knight Rises movie reviews

    The long-awaited <a href="http://www.thedarkknightrises.com/" target="_blank">&ldquo;The Dark Knight Rises&rdquo;</a> -- the latest big-screen treatment of <a href="http://www.dccomics.com/batman" target="_blank">DC Comics' Batman</a> -- will hit screens this week, and the early movie reviews are looking good. The movie builds on the 2008 hit <a href="http://thedarkknight.warnerbros.com/dvdsite/" target="_blank">"The Dark Knight,"</a> and maintains its dark, brooding tenor. Though the mayhem is not for everyone (were comic books?), I'm glad that the Caped Crusader has developed into a strong movie franchise in director Christopher Nolan's trilogy. The Superman movies never achieved this sort of complexity, and some other recent super-hero movies have turned into an amalgam of special effects. Here are some excerpts from movie reviews:&nbsp;

  5. No joke: Batman's latest plods toward predictability

    <b>(C)</b> <span class="dropcap_large">T</span><span class="i">he Dark Knight </span>is a handsome, accomplished piece of work, but it drove me from absorption to excruciation within 20 minutes, and then it went on for two hours more. It's the standard-bearer for the school of comic-book movies that confuses pompousness with seriousness and popular mechanics for drama. It's scaled to be an urban epic about the deterioration of hope and possibility in Batman's hometown, Gotham City (standing in for all Western cities), but there isn't a single stirring or inspired moment in it.

    Hail, hail, the "Gang"'s finally here. That would be "Gangs of New York", Martin Scorsese's long-awaited latest, an epic tale of love and loyalties, played out among the rival immigrant groups of 19th-century New York City. Not since "Titanic" has a film...
